New SID visa and more details 

As we all know by now, from December 7, 2024, the Australian Department of Home Affair has revamped the sponsor visa subclass 482, giving a new name. The SID visa, Skill In Demand visa.  The Australian government has released an explanatory statement for the Migration Amendment (2024 Measures No. 1) Regulations 2024. Let’s have a look to some key points in this blog post. 

Subclass 482 Visa Updates

• The visa will now be branded as ‘Skills In Demand’ (SID)
• It will include three streams:
  a) Core Skills Pathway: For roles listed on the updated Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) with a minimum salary of AUD $73,150.
  b) Specialist Pathway: Open to nearly all roles, but requires a minimum salary of AUD $135,000/year.
  c) Labor Agreement Stream: Maintains active labor agreements currently in place.

 

Subclass 186 Direct Entry Visa

This pathway will now extend to all occupations on the Core Skills Occupation List.

 

English Language Requirements

Standardized across all occupations:

• IELTS: Overall band 5 with a minimum of 5 in each component.
• PTE: Minimum score of 36 in each section.

 

Visa Costs

• Application fee: AUD $3,115.
• Additional STAC fee: AUD $700 (if applying from within Australia on a bridging visa).

 

Work Experience

Applicants must now demonstrate 12 months of relevant work experience at the time of application, rather than at the time of decision.

 

Flexibility in Changing Employers

Workers can switch employers without resetting the two-year requirement to apply for permanent residency. Initial readings suggest this flexibility might also apply to individuals on existing TSS visas, though this is pending confirmation.
